NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a motel.

The robbery occurred Friday just after 2:35 p.m. at the La Quinta Inn at 8400 I-10 Service Road.

According to investigators, a person who looked like a woman entered the lobby, but when they got closer the clerk realized it was a man in a wig. The man, who was armed, demanded money from the clerk. The clerk turned over an undisclosed amount and the man fled.

The man was described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 190 pounds with a brown complexion and a muscular build. He wore a white T-shirt, black shorts, a black and white cap, and dark tennis shoes. He also wore a black wig and carried a pink purse.

Seventh District Detective Wendell Russ is in charge of the investigation.

Crimestoppers, at (504) 822-1111, is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information. Callers do not have to give their names or testify in court.
